Star of the show is Chandler’s most famous privtae eye, Phillip Marlowe, in arguably his greatest novel ‘Farewell, My Lovely’; that most famous of hard-boiled detectives also features in ‘The Lady In The Lake’, and several earlier protagonists star in ‘Pearls Are A Nuisance’, ‘Killer In The Rain’, ‘Smart Alec Kill’ and ‘Trouble Is My Business’. These are all Penguin 1970s editions and most feature recoloured movie covers, many with Humphrey Bogart, the definitive on screen Marlowe.
