American Comics Update: Batmania: Batman #237 Special Halloween Issue
*DC: Batman #237 from 1971 is quite an issue. Not only is it a 48 page super-sized special, it also features the debut of the Reaper in a Halloween tale with art by Neal Adams, story by Denny O’Neill from an idea by Bernie Wrightson and Harlan Ellison. O’Neill himself and several comic professionals appear as guests at the Halloween parade party. Plus Nazis and a holocaust reference. Plus a moody back-up reprint from Detective Comics #37 with horror undertones, the last Batman solo adventure before the advent of Robin. All this beneath a dynamic Neal Adams cover. This is a superior pence stamped copy with superb colours and gloss, the merest amount of handling wear at spine, beautiful white to off-white pages and tight, firm staples. There is an amount of ‘white spine’ visible at the front of the comic, where the stapling has been done a tiny bit to the left of the intended spine line (see scan), and for those who are bothered by this, we have graded and valued the comic to reflect this.
