Batman’s notorious enemy Bane first appeared in the Batman: Vengeance of Bane special, a squarebound 64-page debut featuring the advent and origin of Batman’s new nemesis. From there, Bane went on to be the cause of the Knightfall storyline in Batman #497, where he famously broke Batman’s back (it’s okay kids – he got better).
