American Comics Update: Mighty Marvel Firsts: Debut of Death in War Is Hell #9
*War: By #9 of its run, the Marvel 1970S war series War Is Hell, which started out as a 1950s reprint title, was featuring all new material, specifically introducing the character of Death, as an anthropomorphic entity, to the Marvel Universe. Later better known as the unrequited love of Thanos the Mad Titan in an interminable sequence of Infinity This N’ That, this issue is where the bony gal got her start. Some opinions differ as to whether the representation of Death depicted here is the same as Thanos’s love interest, but it’s all cosmic, innit? Ya pays yer money and ya takes yer choice… An excellent copy, glossy with vibrant colour, white pages, square corners and firm, tight staples. Just a very small back cover margin crease and the tiniest suggestion of stress above the bottom staple.
