American Comics Update: The Arch Collection/L B Cole Miasma: Terrors Of The Jungle #10

*Miscellaneous 1940-1959: L B Cole was one of the most famous of Golden/Atomic Age cover artists. He drew in a variety of genres, and was artistic director at Star, illustrating 95% of the company’s covers; his lurid, feverish style, almost hallucinogenic, graced horror, science-fiction, jungle and romance alike. Terrors Of The Jungle was a sort of hybrid jungle and horror title. From our fabulous Arch Collection this week, issue #10 (1954) has great content, featuring a new story by the stylishly attractive Jay Disbrow (off all the wonderful Disbrow stories that adorn this title, this tale of Nagra, White Goddess of the Blue Pygmies, is my favourite) and two Fox reprints from Zoot featuring Jungle Goddess Rulah. Of course it’s the wonderful L B Cole cover for which this issue is prized, a dynamic scene with a jungle princess astride a zebra tackling a big cat. This is a very nice copy; the beautiful cover is totally unmarked and the colours are rich, vibrant and glossy. Edge and corner wear are very minimal. Pages are a supple white to off-white. There is some staple stress. Upper is fully attached; lower has pulled through back cover, but still attached at front.
