American Comics Update: The Bute Collection/DC Debuts: Batmania – The Head of the Ghoul! First Ra’s al Ghul in Batman #232, with Adams artwork
*DC: From the Bute Collection this week: In Batman #232, creators Denny O’Neil and Neal Adams brought us one of Batman’s most significant villains: Ra’s al Ghul, a.k.a. the Head of the Ghoul (in Arabic), leader of the League of Assassins and father of Talia, the only woman who ever posed Catwoman a serious threat for the Caped Crusader’s affections. Both Talia and the League had made a couple of appearances before this, but this was the first time the readers saw the mysterious head of the League, Moriarty to Batman’s Holmes, and this issue kick-started an epic saga that continues to unravel to this very day. This landmark issue, with gorgeous Neal Adams artwork throughout, is a lovely high-grade copy, with beautiful colours and reflectivity. Tight, firm staples and supple near white pages. A couple of short and very faint stress marks at the spine do not break colour. If you can catch the cover in just the right light, there is a tiny trace of a horizontal line across the centre cover, which is virtually invisible without even the slightest hint of a colour break. A very desirable copy of a very key issue. High resolution images are available on request.
