*DC: DC’s Silver Age war comics were peopled by many unique and memorable characters, none more so that Hans Von Hammer, the World War I flying terror known as The Hammer Of Hell, with his adventures carrying the title Enemy Ace. Created by Robert Kanigher and the superb Joe Kubert, Enemy Ace first appeared in our Our Army At War, following with two full length adventures here in Showcase #57 & #58, followed by a series in Star Spangled War Stories and many later revivals. It was a brave and innovative move by DC to produce a strip starring the enemy, and Hammer was portrayed as a dark but honourable warrior. Both Showcase issues from the Bute Collection this update in quite reasonable mid-grade.
