*Spirit: Here’s a curiosity from the Bute Collection: an 8-page colour section from the Baltimore Sun August 1947 featuring the Spirit by Will Eisner in an encounter with the Octopus. Interested parties should note that this is on newsprint quality paper and is quite fragile, just about holding together, but with many tears and rough edges. These Spirit sections do turn up in the US, but are quite rare here, and what makes this one special is that it is signed by Will Eisner on the front page (top right, see scan). Now, the signature certainly looks genuine to us, and we are assured by the owner of the Bute Collection, who is a comics historian and published author on the subject, that it is the real deal. Certainly a chance to get a unique item.
