*Crime, Spies and Sleaze. In the early 1960s, American publisher Gold Star produced a series of 17 Hank Janson novels, originally published much earlier in the UK under different titles. Thus the faux American sleazy crime stories came full circle. Although not blessed with the fabulous Heade covers of the originals, these do feature very attractive cover art by the cream of good girl cover artists of the time, such as Paul Rader, Harry Barton and Robert Maguire.
