*Science Fiction, Fantasy & Horror: A mix of short stories and anthologies this week. Henry Kuttner’s Ahead Of Time features ‘stories that take the reader to the farthest reaches of the human mind.’ Leo Margulies edits 3 From Out There, long stories by Isaac Asimov, Damon Knight and Edmond Hamilton. Three more long stories by Mervyn Peake, J G Ballard and Brian W Aldiss in The Inner Landscape, edited (but uncredited) by Michael Moorcock. The Mervyn Peake story is a disquieting, haunting tale in the vein of Gormenghast. Finally, Charles Platt’s The City Dwellers, a mash-up of stories originally appearing in New Worlds and in my opinion, his finest work, with the city strangling and crushing humanity. Platt somehow never fulfilled the promise shown in his earlier New Worlds work such as this.
