Books Update: Three Sir Henry Merrivale Mysteries by Carter Dickson
*Crime, Spies & Sleaze: The crime writer John Dickson Carr, in common with many other authors, published books under a different name, in his case Carter Dickson. Whatever name he used, readers could be assured of a well-told, well-plotted story, often with a seemingly insoluble mystery. Carr was an acknowledged master of the locked room mystery. Under his own name, his main recurring detective was Gideon Fell; he used Carter Dickson for his second most featured detective Sir Henry Merrivale. We have three such mysteries fresh in this week: two are uncommon 1st UK paperback editions, the third is a second edition hardcover of the first Merrivale mystery.
