American Comics Update: Mighty Marvel Firsts/Slab Happy: 1st Ant-Man (Henry Pym) in Tales To Astonish #27
*Marvel: It’s been many years since we’ve had a copy of Tales To Astonish #27 (1962) through our hands, featuring Marvel’s tiniest hero and his entry into the Marvel Universe. Scientist Henry Pym became ‘The Man In The Ant-Hill’, in a slight variation on the usual ‘big panty monster’ tropes running in the title at the time which bore no foreshadowing of his heroic future. Nevertheless, Hank came back in costume in TTA #35, and embarked on a long career as Ant-Man, then Giant-Man, Goliath, Yellowjacket, and possibly a couple more identities we forget. This CGC copy is graded at 4.5 (VG+) and is Universal (Unrestored grade) blue label. It has a pence stamp on the ‘A’ in ‘Astonish.’ Case perfect, white to off-white pages. CGC Ref: 4607393005. High resolution images are available on request.
