*Marvel: In the early 1970s, Marvel had the bright idea of teaming up all their big solo heroes not already in the Avengers into a new team and after a few try-outs here and there, the Defenders were born! No matter that the temperaments of the Hulk, Sub-Mariner and Silver Surfer would scarce lend themselves to teamwork (hence the non-team), at least they had Doc Strange to hold them together (for a few issues, at least; roster changes soon followed after a war with the Avengers).
