*Marvel: Introduced as a supporting character in Fantastic Four, the Surfer, herald of the planet-devouring Galactus became so hugely popular that in 1968, he was awarded his own series, scripted by Stan Lee and featuring what is universally acknowledged as some of John Buscema’s finest artwork.
