American Update: Slab Happy/Mighty Marvel Firsts: Tales To Astonish #49: Ant-Man becomes Giant-Man
*Marvel: By 1963, I guess Smilin’ Stan the Man had had enough of ants and ‘tiny’ menaces, so he came up with the idea to re-invent Hank (Ant-Man) Pym as Giant-Man, although the Wasp stayed small — perhaps the world wasn’t ready for a 12 foot high Janet Van Dyne. And to celebrate this event, Stan had the new Giant-Man go up against possibly one of the silliest villains of the Marvel Age, the Living Eraser (I mean, if he wasn’t living what good would he have been?). How did that work out? Well, you can’t tell from this slabbed copy, because you can’t get past the cover without breaking open the slab. But it’s a striking cover all the same!
