Books Update: Re-Working our TV/Film Tie-Ins Category: Doctor Who Part 1
*TV/Film Tie-Ins: We’re continuing to introduce the new layout for our books categories, with an image for each book. This week, we return to our TV/Film Tie-Ins category, where the TV show or film pre-dated the book. There’s one helluva lot of fiction written about Dr Who, but we concentrate on the true vintage stuff, the adaptations of the stories of the first seven Doctors, published by Target, lovingly remembered from the days before video, when this was the only way of re-living these classic stories, and still fondly collected today. Our first (of multiple updates) devoted to the Doctor, has stories of the 3rd, 4th and 5th Doctors, as detailed here.

Books Update: Re-Working our Children’s Books Category: Just William – ‘possibly the funniest, toughest children’s books ever written’
*Children’s Books: We’re continuing to introduce the new layout for our books categories, with an image for each book. This week, we return to our Children’s Books category and the William books by Richmal Crompton. The quote in our title is from the Sunday Times. William, the eternal naughty but lovable schoolboy, is a personal favourite here at 30th Century and his stories are possibly even more amusing when read as an adult than as a child — I’ve done both! There’s no doubt that William Brown provided the inspiration for the character Adam in Terry Pratchett’s and Neil Gaiman’s ‘Good Omens’. We have 13 vintage hardcover volumes, all with dust jackets protected by removable archival film, listed in our catalogue and, for those on a budget, we also have a strong representation of paperback editions from sundry publishers, mostly ‘Red’ MacMillan editions with the famous artwork of Thomas Henry adorning the covers, as on the hardcovers. Most highly recommended; see the full range in our catalogue.

American Comics Update: Strange Sports in Brave & Bold #45-49
*DC: A unique series within the pages of Brave & Bold, one of DC’s famous ‘try-out’ titles. Issues #45-49 featured a curious mixture of sports stories combined with science-fiction, beautifully crafted by Gardner Fox and John Broome and exquisitely illustrated by Carmine Infantino. And there’s a trademark Julius Schwartz gorilla on the cover of #49 to boot!

American Comics Update: Their Name Is Legion: The Legion of Super-Heroes get their own title at last!
*DC: With the last year or so of the Superboy and the Legion of Super-Heroes title, following the Earthwar saga, the title was somewhat in decline, and unfortunately, when the Legion left Superboy behind and took over the title with #259, things didn’t improve, thanks to very ordinary stories by Gerry Conway (who didn’t have a feel for the characters) and very stilted artwork by Jimmy Janes (despite the odd bright spot from Steve Ditko). But Legion fans (and I’m one) are famously completist and wouldn’t be without these issues. Issues #259-283 (almost all of ’em) fresh in this week. We all got our rewards starting with #284 when Paul Levitz ushered in a new vitality and one of the best Legion periods ever, but that’s a story for a future update…
American Comics Update: Spider-Mania: Two excellent issues: Amazing #51 & #56
*Marvel: Lee & Romita were at the height of their creative powers on the Amazing Spider-Man when these two issues were produced. #51 features the first Kingpin storyline (and his first cover appearance) and #56 is the finale of the Dr Octopus quartet that ran from #53 onwards. Classic villains, classic covers, classic Spidey!
PICTURED: AMAZING SPIDER-MAN
#51 GD/VG £100 Solid copy with some ‘crazing’ marks on the masthead box top and top and bottom right edges. Nice colour and pages. Bottom staple a little rusty and off centrefold.

American Comics Update: The Good Doctor Collection: Marvel’s Space-Born Super-Hero, Captain Marvel
*Marvel: From the Good Doctor Collection this week, issues #2-18 complete of the original series of Captain Marvel, starting in 1968. Up to halfway through #16, the Kree captain wears the green and white uniform in which he rose to fame, replacing it with a new look (cameo in #16, full in #17) by which he became better known in all the cosmic Thanos adventures that were to follow. Villains and guest stars galore, including the Super Skrull, Sub-Mariner, Quasimodo, Iron Man, Captain America and more. Issue #18 features the explosion in which it is later revealed that Carol Danvers gained the super-powers leading to her Ms Marvel identity. Nearly all superior graded copies.

American Comics Update: Spider-Mania: Peter Parker, Spectacular Spider-Man 1976 #1
*Marvel: 1976’s Peter Parker, the Spectacular Spider-Man #1 marked the second ongoing Spider-Man title published by Marvel, in what people feared might dilute the franchise – if only they knew! Intended originally to focus more on Spidey’s civilian alter ego, it rapidly evolved into an adjunct to, and frequent crossover with, Amazing Spider-Man, founding the practise which was to become industry standard in later decades. This copy of PPSM #1 is a superb NM- cents copy, with only a couple of the tiniest pressure marks at spine that do not break colour. What more could you want? Listed in our catalogue under ‘Spider-Man, Spectacular’.

American Comics Update: Fantastic Four #126-150
*Marvel: Copies of Marvel’s First Family, the Fantastic Four, newly available in the above number range, most issues in that range, mostly in very nice grades. Please consult our catalogue for full details.
American Comics Update: The Bute Collection: Post Code Horror Fest: Black Magic
*Horror 1940-1959: From the Bute Collection this week, nine issues of Crestwood/Prize’s Black Magic. Although the vast majority of this title was published in the 1950s, the series lasted until 1962. We’ve decided to feature all issues of Black Magic in this category for consistency, even though some of them are later than 1959. These nine issues run from 1957 to 1961. The stories inside are very competently executed horror/mystery tales typical of the post-code era. Please consult our catalogue for full details.

British Comics Update: Warrior from Quality complete run of 26 issues
*Boys’ Adventure & War Comics: Dez Skinn’s Warrior from his Quality Group is one of the most loved and fondly remembered British comics of its time (1982-1985). Although all content was of a high standard, it is for Alan Moore’s Marvelman (later Miracleman) and V For Vendetta that this title will always be remembered and revered. The V For Vendetta mask, a stylised version of a traditional Guy Fawkes mask, has become known as a symbol of worldwide anti-establishment protest movements. Although Moore finished off both strips elsewhere, it’s here that they famously got their start. All 26 issues are now available; please consult our catalogue for details.

British Comics Update: This Week’s #1: Walt Disney’s Weekly 1959
*TV & Film Related Comics: Walt Disney’s Weekly commenced on 26th January 1959, renamed from the former Walt Disney’s Mickey Mouse, itself a continuation of Mickey Mouse Weekly. Strips included Mickey himself, Donald Duck, Peter Pan etc as well as excellent adventure strips such as the cover-featured Zorro. High production values and great colours. This copy of the first issue is solid, but a little foxed with a few small tears.

British Comics Update: True Life Library 25 new issues listed
*Girls’ Picture Libraries: 25 issues of True Life Library newly added to our catalogue, from #626-650, every issue in that number range. The standard of art by mainly European illustrators is very accomplished. These are lovely items, their appeal enhanced by the fact that they are from a newsagent’s reserve stock, never sold or circulated, with white pages, bright covers and not too much rust in the staple areas on most examples; a few of the earlier ones have slight tanning to edges of inside covers. Full details as always in our catalogue.
Books Update: Re-Working our Science Fiction, Fantasy & Horror Category: Asimov Edits and Lady Asquith’s Ghosts
*Science Fiction, Fantasy & Horror: We’re continuing to introduce the new layout for our books categories, with an image for each book. This week, we return to our Science Fiction, Fantasy & Horror category to conclude authors/editors beginning with ‘A’. A few anthologies edited by Isaac Asimov, including: Volume 3 of Before the Golden Age, stories from the 1930s; Tomorrow’s Children, stories of children in science fiction settings by some of the genre’s most famous authors; and the Science Fictional Solar System, an intriguing collection of stories about each planet of the solar system and more. Finally, the first Pan Ghost Book, edited by Lady Cynthia Asquith, stories of ghosts of all types, the first paperback edition of this classic volume. Full details in our catalogue.

American Comics Update: Their Name Is Legion: Adventure Comics #300 – LSH series begins
*DC: The latest in our Legion of Super-Heroes event is a superb copy of Adventure Comics #300, in which Tales of the Legion of Super-Heroes replaced Tales of the Bizarro World as the regular back-up feature to Superboy and starred on the cover. Although the Legion had been around as supporting characters for a few years, it was really here and in the 80 issue run that followed that the lore of the Legion, so beloved by its fans (of which I’m one) really started. This is a truly fabulous high grade cents copy. Vibrant cover colour and gloss, totally unmarked, fresh and supple near white pages, clean staples tight and firm at spine and centrefold, square corners, looks unread and just off the newsstand. The only blemishes are a very faint 1.5 cm crease diagonally down from the lower staple which does not break colour and a couple of tiny pressure pinpoints just to the left of the 12 cents box. You’ll wait a long time to see a better copy of this conservatively graded milestone issue. As a dealer of 30+ years and a Legion fan of 60 years, I’ve never seen a nicer one. High resolution images are available on request.

American Comics Update: DC Debuts: Ultra the Multi-Alien complete run
*DC: Mystery In Space, the venerable DC science-fiction title which lasted from 1951 to 1968, 117 issues (with a brief revival in 1980), ended its original run with eight issues starring the bizarre adventurer Ultra the Multi-Alien, an Earth spaceman transformed into a mixed alien being by one of the most contrived devices ever. We have the complete Ultra run (#110-117) new to the market from an original owner collection, all in very decent shape, averaging FN+. Please see our catalogue for full details.

American Comics Update: The Good Doctor Collection: Mighty Marvel Firsts/Spider-Mania: 1st Mary Jane cameo in Amazing #25
*Marvel: Our first visit to the Good Doctor Collection this week features the first of several cameo appearances of Mary Jane (her face was not shown until #42), as well as the debuts of Professor Smythe and his Spider Slayer, the first incarnation of which was a marvellously fluid Ditko invention. Virtually every issue of Amazing from these early years was a landmark! This mid-grade cents copy is reasonably appealing, with an intact if somewhat worn spine, but bright colours, firm staples and decent off-white to cream pages. Some corner blunting, a faint dust shadow across the very top edge, a little bit of handling wear and a minor crease or two, with only the shorter one breaking colour at bottom right corner.
PICTURED: AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #25 VG+ £185
American Comics Update: The Good Doctor Collection: Strange Tales #118-124: Human Torch, Dr Strange
*Marvel: A good period for Strange Tales from the Good Doctor Collection. In #118-124, not only do we get a stream of the Torch’s more famous villains, such as the Wizard, the Plantman, the Beetle (in his first appearance in #123), and Paste-Pot Pete, there’s also some beautifully crafted self-contained Dr Strange tales in the back by Lee & Ditko. And there’s a whole host of guest stars: the Thing and the rest of the Fantastic Four, Iceman in #120 and, in the Dr Strange story in #123, Thor & Loki (giving us a chance to see Ditko’s unique interpretation of those Asgardians).

American Comics Update: Two early Golden Armour appearances of Iron Man in Tales Of Suspense inc Mighty Marvel Firsts
*Marvel: We turn now to the early career of the Golden Avenger Iron Man, back when he really was gold. In Tales of Suspense #41, in his third ever appearance, Iron Man encountered Dr Strange, but not the one you’re thinking of. This one was a super-villain who could control electricity with his mind, pre-dating the Master of the Mystic Arts; unsurprisngly, Carl Strange has not reappeared since. Issue #47 featured the debut of a more famous member of Iron Man’s rogues’ gallery, the Melter, who would return many times to plague both Iron Man and the Avengers as a member of the Masters of Evil.
PICTURED: TALES OF SUSPENSE
#41 FA+ p £115 Pence printed, worn spine with chip out and off both staples leading to staples-sized holes. Cover image unmarked but for faint dust shadow along right edge. Pages attached at centrefold. Tanned edges to interior covers; pages are pretty good. SOLD
#47 GD- p £115 Pence printed, cover and spine worn with small colour-breaking creases. Staples attached throughout. Pages are okay with some wear and foxing at edges. Tanned edges to interior covers. A tired copy.
American Comics Update: Spider-Mania: Marvel Team-up #41-86
*Marvel: In 1972, Marvel came up with the brainwave of the team-up title (that DC had been doing in Brave & Bold for many years by then); ostensibly this was starring Spidey or the Human Torch with the guest star of the month, but it soon transformed to just Spidey with Johnny Storm making fewer and fewer appearances. We have most issues fresh in this week between #41 and #86, with a plethora of guest stars too lengthy to mention here; most are in exceptionally high grade. For grade and price details, please consult our catalogue.
American Comics Update: The Bute Collection: Black Cat, the Darling of Comics
*Harvey: Back in the 1940s and 1950s, Linda Turner was the only Black Cat in comics, ‘Hollywood Star and America’s Sweetheart’ turned costumed crime-fighter and judo expert. We have two issues from the Bute Collection this week, the first #19, from the short period when the title was renamed Black Cat Western and had a modern Western tale, and the second #24, complete but for one feature page. Plenty of back-up features in both.
IN THIS UPDATE:
BLACK CAT (WESTERN) #19 VG+ £60 (PICTURED) Nice solid copy with just moderate edge wear; top staple off cover.
BLACK CAT #24 INCOMPLETE £5 Low grade anyway, but missing ‘Fashion Forecasts’ page. SOLD
American Comics Update: The Bute Collection: Krazy and Madhouse: Two Zany #1 issues
*Miscellaneous 1940-1959: Also from the Bute Collection this week, two zany #1 issues: Timely’s Krazy #1 (2nd series 1948) features the art of Wolverton (10 pages) and Kurtzman (8 pages) among other humour strips. Madhouse #1 (1st series 1954) from Ajax/Farrell emulates the satire and parody of Mad.
PICTURED:
KRAZY #1 GD- £65 Reasonably good front cover with tiny corners off right edges. The back cover has a long tear (with holes) and a repair with brown tape. Staples and interiors are okay.
MADHOUSE #1 FA/GD £25 Weak spine with splits and holes, off bottom staples, chip out right edge cover. Decent pages. SOLD
American Comics Update: Pre-Code Horror Fest: Atlas Mixed Bag
*Horror 1940-1959: Three Atlas pre-code horror issues this week, two of which have been through the wars, but all containing the superior brand of horror that Atlas purveyed.
IN THIS UPDATE:
ASTONISHING #22 PR £14 Pre-code. Covers detached and separated; several chips out bottom edge.
ASTONISHING #24 VG- £75 (PICTURED) Pre-code. Minor corner creasing and slight spine roll, but solid copy with firm staples, cover gloss and decent creamy pages.
SUSPENSE #7 INCOMPLETE £16 Pre-code. Centrefold out, so 1 story page missing. Otherwise reasonable copy with front cover off staple and staple-sized hole in spine.
American/British Comics Update: 10 UK Classics Illustrated
*Classics Illustrated: 10 mostly early UK versions of Classics Illustrated now added, most of them previously missing from our listings: #23 Oliver Twist, #24 Journey To The Centre Of The Earth, #27 The Spy, #31 The Black Arrow, #33 The Adventures Of Tom Sawyer, #37 The Pioneers, #42 Swiss Family Robinson, #46 Kidnapped, #47 In The Reign Of Terror, #48 David Copperfield. For full details of prices and editions, please consult our catalogue.
British Comics Update: 2000 AD #31-99
*Boys’ Adventure & War Comics: At the beginning of 1977, around the onset of punk music, a comic was launched that captured the zeitgeist of the times, more anarchic and anti-establishment than anything that had come before it in British comics. This update, we present dozens of issues fresh in between #31 and #99 (not a consecutive run). A great period for the title, with the debut of Inferno, the merger with Starlord and the beginning of Brian Bolland’s long association on the title, probably it’s most iconic artist.

British Comics Update: This Week’s #1 x4: World Adventure Library
*Boys’ Adventure & War Picture Libraries: In the mid-1960s, World Distributors launched several series in their World Adventure Library label, each one focusing on a prominent comics or TV/Film franchise, with high quality production values. Most were picture strips, with a few illustrated text format. Four such #1 issues in this week’s #1 slot, as detailed below:

British Comics Update: Love Story Picture Library #1213-1375
*Girls’ Picture Libraries: We’re firmly in the early 1070s with this week’s release of Love Story Picture Library, the longest running romance picture library from Fleetway, comprising 25 issues in the above number range. The same high standards and look of the series are maintained as we move out of the swinging sixties, with 70s fashion looks beginning to creep in. These new additions average very nice condition, nearly all better than FN, with many VF. Small degree of staple rust only on very few, but most rust-free. Full details as always in our catalogue.

Books Update: 4 by Poul Anderson
*Science Fiction, Fantasy & Horror: This week, we feature more from Poul Anderson, award-winning American science fiction and fantasy writer of Scandinavian descent. Anderson came to fame as a writer of so-called ‘hard’ science fiction, which, although rooted in technology, was shot through with humanity. Later perhaps, he produced many works of fantasy of great merit. Four of his works fresh in this week. Brain Wave is a novel where IQ begins at 150, The Broken Sword is a classic fantasy, The Corridors Of Time is a time travel tour de force and Orbit Unlimited is a cosmic adventure of tyranny and colonialism.

American Comics Update: DC Debuts: 1st Animal Man in Strange Adventures #180
*DC: It wasn’t in his first appearance here in Strange Adventures #180 that Buddy Baker gained his super-hero name and costume, but it was here that he got his super-powers and was dubbed ‘The Man With Animal Powers’, in his origin story beautifully illustrated by Carmine Infantino. A lovely copy in new this week, pence stamped with a vibrant, glossy black and white cover background. Staples firm at spine and centrefold and supple white to off-white pages. Only very slight corner blunting, very minor edge wear with just a couple of spine ticks marginally breaking colour. From an original owner collection and new to the market.

American Comics Update: Superman #201-235 inc. iconic #233
*DC: Nearly every issue of the Man of Steel between #201-235 freshly added to our catalogue, a period previously poorly represented in our listings. Lots of 80 Page Giants in this period featuring classic reprints from yesteryear, plus plenty of modern contemporary developments such as the ‘end’ of Kryptonite in the pivotal #233 with an iconic cover by Neal Adams, pictured here. Consult our catalogue for full details of all issues available.

American Comics Update: Spider-Mania/The Totally Amazing Spider-Man Collection: Goblin/Drugs Trilogy in Amazing #96-98
*Marvel: If you’re looking for really nice copies of Amazing Spider-Man for your collection, then look no further than the Totally Amazing Spider-Man Collection. All high grade; even the few that fall below VF (and most are above) are really good-looking copies – no duds here, and nearly all cents copies. Stan Lee rather controversially decided to feature a drugs plot in Amazing Spider-Man #96-98, a Green Goblin trilogy when Norman Osborn remembers his sinister alter ego. This meant the Comics Code Authority seal was not used on these issues. There’s a whole load of interaction between Peter Parker’s growing cast and a story with a social conscience, culminating in an epic showdown with the Goblin. The art by Kane and Romita don’t hurt none, either.
PICTURED: AMAZING SPIDER-MAN

American Comics Update: The Good Doctor Collection: Journey Into Mystery with Thor #100-102
*Marvel: Three early Thors in Journey Into Mystery from the Good Doctor Collection this week: In #100, Thor concludes his first encounter with Mr. Hyde, in #101 he faces the Tomorrow Man again (and the Avengers guest star in their 2nd crossover), and in #102, the battle with the Tomorrow Man concludes, but, more significantly, the Tales Of Asgard back-up features the debuts of Balder, Sif and Hela.

#102 GD/VG p £105 Pence printed, good colour, short creases and small tears at bottom right corner, but decent pages and staples.
American Comics Update: Spider-Mania: Giant-Size Super-Heroes featuring Spider-Man #1
*Marvel: This one-off Spidey special just pre-dated the regular Giant-Size Spider-Man series of the 1970s. Here Spidey comes up against both Morbius and the Man-Wolf, plus extra features. A great copy, flat and firmly-bound with tight staples, great cover gloss and only the tiniest amount of wear. Pages are a supple off-white to cream. There is a slight mis-cut visible at the spine, which is slightly wider at the bottom.

American Comics Update: Conan the Barbarian from #11-22 complete
*Marvel: A nice run of the original series of Conan fresh in this week from #11 to #22 complete. Lots of lovely Barry Smith artwork (by this time he had honed his skills to perfection), a couple of great fill-ins by Gil Kane (#17-18), a two-part crossover with Michael Moorcock’s Elric (#14-15) and a reprint of the first issue in #22. The best sword and sorcery comics ever. As always, see our catalogue for full details.
American Comics Update: The Bute Collection: Pre-Code Horror Fest: Adventures Into The Unknown
*Horror 1940-1959: From the Bute Collection this week, six early issues of ACG’s Adventures Into The Unknown. This series, starting in 1948, was the first on-going continuous horror comic. Readers of my generation, raised perhaps on ACG’s Silver Age output of rather charming fantasy and whimsy, may not be familiar with just how hard-hitting and horrific their pre-code material was, as well as being well-crafted both in terms of story and art. All the traditionals are here: vampires, zombies, phantoms, skeletons, things from the swamp, monsters… and a heap of dinosaurs as well. Without the reputation of some of their more notorious competition, Adventures Into The Unknown remains quality at a relative bargain price.

American Comics Update: Enemy Ace in Star Spangled War Stories
*War: In issues #138 to #150 of the long-running Star Spangled War Stories title, DC featured the exploits of Enemy Ace, Hans Von Hammer, the German pilot from World War 1 (later WW2), known as the Hammer of Hell. Due to immense popularity following his debut in Our Army At War #151, he reappeared in that title before being granted his own series in Star Spangled, later appearing many times over the years in the DCU. We have seven nicely-graded consecutive issues of his SSWS run fresh in, all cents copies, with multiple copies of many issues as follows:

British Comics Update: Retro Futures: Science-Fiction Albums from the 1950s & 1960s
*Annuals: If you’re like me, you just love these imagined futures from the 1950s and 1960s, when spaceships had rivets, saucers were flying, women were princesses and aliens were green. Two great examples in this update. Outer Space features mainly the strips of Captain Future that originally appeared in the British 1950s comic Spaceman; illustrated by Norman Light, and not to be confused with the American space hero of the same name. The one-off Planet Adventure Book from Atlas 1962 (card covers) reprinted classic sci-fi from the pages of Fiction House’s Planet Comics, the leading US science-fiction comic of the 40s and 50s.

British Comics Update: This Week’s #1/Free Gift Farrago: Ranger #1 1965
*Boys’ Adventure & War Comics: This Week’s #1 British comics slot is filled by Ranger #1 from 1965, with its original Free Gift included as a bonus. Although being the birthplace of Don Lawrence’s rightly celebrated Trigan Empire, the large format Ranger had a lot of other things going for it as well: nice paper quality, glorious painted covers and lots of other beautifully executed strips such as H. Rider Haggard’s King Solomon’s Mines & Allan Quartermain, Treasure Island , Space Cadet and many other stories of war, western, science fiction and historical adventure in a mix of colour and black and white. It had a short life before being subsumed into Look & Learn. The Trigan Empire debuted in #1, here with its Free Gift, the BOAC VC10 Booklet. This is a decent copy of this large format comic, with some spine wear, a minor crease or two and a small tear on the back cover margin. The Booklet Free Gift is a very nice Fine.

British Comics Update: Starblazer: Space Fiction Adventure in Pictures – 10 early issues
*Boys’ Adventure & War Picture Libraries: A late entry into the picture library annals, Starblazer lasted a very respectable 281 issues from 1970 to 1991. And it does just what it says on the strapline. Ten early issues new in between #2 and #25. As cheap as microchips (which are probably cheaper than proper chips these days). Full details as always in our catalogue.

Books Update: Re-Working our Crime, Spies & Sleaze Category: John Dickson Carr: King Of Crime
*Crime, Spies & Sleaze: We’re continuing to introduce the new layout for our books categories, with an image for each book. This week, we return to our Crime, Spies & Sleaze category and the works of Joh Dickson Carr. I’m often harping on here about the Queens Of Crime, those indomitable (mostly) British women who dominated the crime/detective genre in the Golden Age Of Detective Fiction, roughly between the wars. Well, there was one male writer active at the time who was their equal, and he was an American to boot, although he lived a significant part of his life in England, where most of his tales were set. John Dickson Carr (who also wrote as Carter Dickson) was the master of the locked room mystery, a setter of seemingly impossible puzzles for his recurring cast of detectives. He also wrote many historical mysteries which are equally engaging. We’re now listing which novel features which detective (if a recurring character), as well as which are historical mysteries. Several new additions in this re-working. Featured are a few of my favourites (both UK and US editions); includes The Hollow Man, which is widely regarded as the best locked room mystery ever written. Lots of other stock listed in our catalogue.

American Comics Update: Crisis On Infinite Earths – Complete 12 issue set, with deaths of Supergirl, Flash and scores more
*DC: In 1985, for the company’s 50th Anniversary, DC released Crisis on Infinite Earths, a 12-part series in which all the multiple parallel Earths of the DCU, long established ever since ‘Flash of Two Worlds’, faced annihilation, in an attempt to reconcile the conflicting alternate realities, and result in a more comprehensible DC Universe. Marv Wolfman and George Perez delivered a truly epic story, sending shockwaves through fandom as veteran characters perished, mostly permanently. (Well, until reality rebooted again, but in fairness that was decades later…) For all its flawed legacy (it was unevenly followed up by other creators, resulting in a ‘streamlined’ DCU that was actually more confusing, and it set the precedent for sprawling cosmic crossovers to become a tedious annual occurrence), COIE was an epochal event in the evolution of comics. Marvel’s Secret Wars may have done it first – but Crisis did it with style, expertise and a genuine air of consequence. In memory of the late, great George Perez. This is being sold only as a complete set of 12, averaging VF, no low grade copies.

American Comics Update: The Totally Amazing Spider-Man Collection: Kraven/Vulture trilogy in Amazing #47-49
This week, we feature the three issue sequence in which Spidey takes on Kraven the Hunter (#47), then the Vulture (#48) and finally the two combined (#49), with Lee & Romita at their best. This is the time that Blackie Drago took over (temporarily) from Adrian Toomes as the Vulture. As well as lots of action, there’s also plenty of developments with Peter Parker’s gang of supporting characters.

#49 VF- £130 Beautiful copy with vibrant colour cover and gloss. Tight, firm staples, square corners and tiny amounts of edge wear. Off-white to white pages.
